Coasteering

Try the newest and most exciting adventure sport in Cornwall with Polzeath’s specialist Coasteering company. This is high-octane exploration of the rugged coastline with something for everyone: climb along the cliffs, swim through white water and into caves, and leap off progressively higher jumps. Investigate unseen areas of the beautiful coast under the supervision of our seasoned Coasteering guides, all SLSGB trained coasteering instructors and beach lifeguards. Join us away from the crowded surf beaches and experience coasteering along the wild beauty of North Cornwall's coastline.

We pride ourselves on being the Original and Best coasteering company in our area, being the ambassadors for the sport in the Polzeath region. We discovered, risk assessed and used all of the routes in this area before our competitors had set up, so we can guarantee you a fun day out with the most experienced, knowledgeable and pioneering Coasteering provider in the Polzeath area.

We have a variety of coasteering venues across North Cornwall, stretching from Newquay to Bude, focussing on the Rock, Polzeath and Port Isaac areas. Our standard introduction and intermediate sessions are run out of Port Quin and Port Gaverne, both within a short drive of Polzeath Beach, whilst Advanced and Power Coasteering sessions can be further away, utilising our RIB powerboat based in the Camel Estuary. Typically a coasteering session runs for three hours with two hours in the water and on the cliffs. Introductory, intermediate and advanced routes are available. Participants must be 10 years or over and competent swimmers (i.e. be able to swim 50M in a pool unaided).

We provide all equipment; buoyancy device, helmet, a super warm 5mm winter wetsuit and thick soled wetsuit boots. If you prefer to wear you own wetsuit or your own boots then feel free to bring them along.

Cornish Rock Tors is a member of the British Coasteering Federation and is licensed by the Adventure Activities Licensing Service and adheres to all their safety guidelines.
Introduction to Coasteering

Usually held at Port Quin (4 miles from Polzeath), this is a fantastic and fun introduction to the sport of Coasteering. You’ll spend up to 2 hours in the sea, exploring the caves, scrambling over rock platforms, swimming across inlets, climbing above deep water and leaping off of some exciting ledge jumps (all jumps are entirely optional), all under the experienced eyes of our BCF trained and SLSGB qualified Coasteering instructors. Port Quin is a beautiful, secluded natural port which is more sheltered from swell than our other venues, making it perfect for getting to grips with coasteering.

Whether you are timid first timers or gung-ho teenagers we’ve got plenty of challenges and thrills to make this a brilliant and memorable experience, as well as providing you with all the water-based skills for taking on the Intermediate Coasteering session on your next visit.

The Introduction to Coasteering session is a requirement for under 18’s wanting to try out our Intermediate Coasteering routes.

The Introduction to Coasteering costs £35 per person. We provide all equipment; buoyancy device, helmet, super warm 5mm winter wetsuit and wetsuit boots, you just need to turn up with swim wear and a towel.
Intermediate Coasteering

Aimed at adventurous, able adults and courageous teenagers that have completed the Introduction session, Intermediate Coasteering is a trip for those looking to have a unique, memorable experience with physical and mental challenges, topped off with lashings of adrenaline.

Starting with a jump you'll spend 2 hours exploring a stunning, wild stretch of sheer cliffs and spooky caves. You'll spend your time traversing swell-swept ledges, swimming through wave gullies and open stretches of water and climbing up progressively higher ledge systems, to launch yourselves off of our most sizeable jumps.

This is our most popular and acclaimed session, and is [more than challenging enough,] even for people who have been Coasteering before. The Intermediate Coasteering sessions usually take place at Port Gaverne (near Port Isaac), but can also be held at Pentire point (Polzeath) or around the Port Quin area depending on sea conditions.

The Intermediate Coasteering session costs £40 per person. We'll provide quality, toasty warm 5mm winter wetsuits, 5mm boots, buoyancy aids and helmets, as well as a minimum of 2 fully trained BCF coasteering instructors. All you need bring is a towel, swim wear and transport.
Advanced Coasteering

Advanced routes can be arranged on request and are designed for experienced coasteerers wanting a greater test of their skills and fitness. Advanced routes are only available to those who have completed the Intermediate Coasteering session with Cornish Rock Tors.

Routes take approximately four hours and cover long sections of completely inaccessible, wild coastline, taking in enormous cave systems, open water swims, rock scrambling, hard climbing and large jumps, all with appreciable swell. Triatheletes, open water swimmers and adventure racers, this is your cup of tea. The focus is on the journey, requiring endurance, confidence and a will to survive!

The advanced coasteering costs £70 per person as we use reduced instructor ratios. We provide all equipment; buoyancy device, helmet, a super warm 5mm winter wetsuit and wetsuit boots.

Power Coasteering

This is the ultimate day out for thrill seekers, combining our coasteering expertise with a 6.5m RIB power boat. With all the challenges of an Intermediate level coasteering session, there are jumps, caves, climbs and gullies. The difference is that we'll use the boat to access and provide support to enter completely wild and inaccessible stretches of North Cornwall’s coastline. You'll get a totally unique and flexible coasteering session catered to your group's ability and the day's conditions. It is totally original, utterly memorable, and the best thing is there's no one else out there, just us and the seals.

Power Coasteering tours meet on Rock pontoon by the Cornish Sea Tours office, before heading out on the boat past Padstow and into the Camel estuary. After that the options are endless, with coasteering spots stretching from Newquay to Polzeath and Port Isaac.

The cost of Power Coasteering is £80 per person, minimum group size 3. All the equipment is provided, just bring a towel, swim wear and transport. The session lasts approximately 4.5 hours, with 3 hours on the water.
