For me coming to the end of a Summer is a weird time as the fun times of the beach being busy, BBQ’s with friends and people hanging around is soon to be over. Everybody starts getting ready for hibernation mode, locking down winter jobs, packing on a few pounds for warmth and learning how to see in the dark again. All those rumours of “another really cold winter” flying around do tend to leave me feeling slightly glum about trying to maintain getting in the sea on a regular basis.
That being said we did start off with our fairly normal winter, lots of wind, rain, massive unusable swell and more wind! There were a couple of gem days after Christmas and as a result, one nice day we managed to make a little video of a Coasteering session.
Please watch it….like it…..then share it! If you do all 3 then you’re a massive legend!
This winter on the whole has been surprisingly warm until February where we have seen our first bit of frost at Polzeath. We have had epic sunshine (albeit freezing cold!), and an amazing run of surf. There seems to be a lot of happy smiley faces around the beaches at the moment. Matt has been pretty stoked as he’s been able to sneak in a few ice climbs in North Wales before the winter was over and I continued to battle my frozen wetsuit and brave the surf.
Things are starting to hot up for the start of the season now, and we can’t wait to get going this year! The beach is very busy today with families and dog walkers and I’ve got a feeling it will only get busier.
We are getting enquiries for activities coming in pretty much every day now! Give us a ring if you’re thinking of coming down to Cornwall soon and we can get you booked in for the activity of your choice!
I managed to get a quick snap of Polzeath during the particular cold snap. How would you fancy Coasteering around the Icicles?
See you soon!

Here at Cornish Rock Tors we’re committed to giving our customers the best experiences in the Cornish outdoors. To ensure we deliver the safest, adrenaline filled and enjoyable adventures, we only provide activities which we are absolutely passionate about. These are the activities in which we are most experienced and get the most enjoyment from: rock climbing, coasteering and sea kayaking.
We reckon these are the best activities to try out when in Cornwall. We also happen to believe that these activities are the best for exploring Cornwall’s rugged terrain and coastline.
Coasteering Cornwall
From our base in Polzeath we’re lucky to have speedy access to some of the best routes for coasteering in Cornwall. For Coasteering Cornwall adventures, we are truly blessed. There are sheltered coves, rocky points, caves and gullies to explore nearby. And the best bit about Coasteering in Cornwall is that almost anyone can do it. There are no skills to learn, so it’s open to most ages and abilities,. That’s why coasteering remains our most popular activity.
Rock Climbing Cornwall
Rock climbing is what got us into outdoor activities in the first place. Between our instructors we have decades of climbing experience, gathered from years of rock climbing in far-flung places. But we’re always happy to return home to Cornwall which boasts some of the best sea cliff rock climbing in the world. Along with rocky outcrops on our broody moors, this makes rock climbing Cornwall a fantastic activity for beginners and improvers alike.
Sea Kayaking Cornwall
Millions of people visit Cornwall’s beaches each year, but only the lucky few get to witness the beauty of the Cornish coast from offshore. This is where sea kayaking Cornwall comes in. We use sit-on top kayaks and launch from beaches with little or no swell, so this activity can be enjoyed by those new to kayaking as well as better skilled paddlers.
There are tens of other activities you can do in Cornwall. Some of them are great fun and thoroughly recommended. But for us we’re more than happy with our choice to practice and promote our favourite threesome: rock climbing, coasteering and sea kayaking.
If you’d like to try out one of these Cornwall activities, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
